Title: Royal Navy WWI Photos at NHHC

Here is a photograph of the Battle of Jutland I found on the Museum of the US Navy Flickr. There are quite a few RN photos to be found here and on the NHHC website.

Royal Navy (British) during the First World War. Battle of Jutland, May 31-June 1, 1916. Salvo of 12? shells falling between the Royal Navy battle cruisers HMS Lion and HMS Princess Royal and the destroyer line. Collection was transferred from a British government source in 1920 to the Library of Congress.

Royal Navy Formidable-class pre-dreadnought battleship, HMS Irresistible listing and sinking after striking a mine in the Dardanelles, March 18, 1915. She was commissioned in February 1902.

Now sometime back (but not so long) there was a mention of semaphor signals that sounded like it did not include flags. Just can't recall where I heard it. Anyway...here's a picture of semaphor involving a loud haler from that last set of pictures. Great pictures Kevin!. Curious:

Royal Navy monitor, M29, with a painted bow wave which gave her appearance of steaming faster than she was ...

I was kind of confused for a second and then I read the description. I was like, I'm pretty sure boats weren't fast enough to creat such waves back then. Awesome pic, a piece of history.
