Dealing with fractions in the log can be tricky.

If there is no ambiguity, keep the fraction as in the first example above.
Note: In this case the meanings are different:
SSW1/2W is 1/2 point (1 point = 11.25 degrees) west of south, i.e. 208.125 degrees.
SSW.5W is .5 degrees west of SSW, i.e. 203 degrees.

If the numerator of the fraction could be incorrectly read as part of the number, convert the fraction to a decimal as in the second example above.
