Aha, at 7.30am it says "Hoisting out P Boat. Main (something) buckled + dropped P Boat across Quarter Deck"

Then later,

"London anchor abreast of ship + came alongside + hoisted fore part of P Boat into the (something) hoisted stern part on to Quarter Deck"

Any help with the (something)s?

Is that second something crutches?

ie a cradle of crossed poles in which the boat would sit (if it hadnt been broken in two!!!)

and could the first one be Davits? Very peculiar writing as you say, but Davits might make sense.

That handwriting is ridiculous. The bit that presumably means 'hands employed' looks like 'panda empty' to me. :-\

Davits and crutches looks right, thanks!

And you do get used to the writing, honest! It does take a bit of detective work sometimes though  ;D
