The r in that Friday is also v peculiar. I would have spent ages on trying to figure that out if it hadnt been Friday at the top of the page.

Odd T from the Patia calligrapher, which makes 'Town patrol' at 7pm look more like 'Clown patrol': http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-54565/ADM%2053-54565-007_1.jpg

Will someone tell me how this log-keeper thinks his "T" in Torch is different from his "F" in Friday? ::)

The T is crossed with the continuation of the T.
The F is crossed with a separate stroke.  ;D

Hmm, I can't see any difference. Are you sure you haven't been mistaken all along and you're really on the HMS Forch? ;D

Sloppy, open lowercase 'o' from my old friend Sub-Lt Cecil Bond, the Patia's current log-keeper (see weather code on the 8pm entry): http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-54573/ADM%2053-54573-007_1.jpg
He doesn't usually write his o's like that, but in weather codes, when he's not linking his letters, he has a tendency to rush the o's a bit and basically writes a vaguely circular counter-clockwise squiggle. Sometimes the beginning and the end of the squiggle join up, sometimes (as in this example) they don't.

Merlin had a substitute log keeper recently who wrote "Hooy" for "Hazy".   :D

I will have to go back and hunt it up.  May take me awhile--it was several pages ago.

Unusual capital R from the new Patia log-keeper: see 11am entry (the word which looks like 'Mango' is really 'Range')

I much prefer "mango finder."  An enterprising and nutritionally-minded captain, using all means available, to combat scurvy for his crew....   ;D

Another one from the Patia's new log-keeper: an N that looks like a W at first sight, which is a bit inconvenient and makes you do double-takes on wind directions. See the first weather report on this page: 'Nly':
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-54576/ADM%2053-54576-015_0.jpg
Also, he clearly can't read, because he keeps putting weather codes and wind force into the wrong columns. ::)
