Signs of OW addiction ...
« on: March 30, 2011, 03:49:30 pm »
Maybe we should do a "Top Ten" list of signs that you may be addicted to OW...

#10  You spend more time on the forum than you do transcribing.
#9   When someone asks you, "How's the weather?," you respond "Light Airs, 3, bc..."

Anyone want to add a few of their own?

How can 3 still be 'Light Airs'?

#8. When you do over 200 entries during a day when you are supposed to be working.

#7: When you have to look up the French for 'log book' and 'transcribe' so you can answer a French friend when they ask what you have been up to recently.

Add husband and son to #7, not just wife and daughter - it should probably be "spouse and children threaten grave bodily harm if you attempt to talk about the project."  My family does not want to hear about the Foxglove or any other ship for that matter - even though my husband thought the hankie pankie on the Patia was funny.  ;D

#5 When you spend more time wondering what some now-dead sailors were up to 90 years ago than what your friends and family are doing right now.

#4 When you are shocked when you look out of the window, because you were certain it was a blazing hot, sunny day. Then you realise that it was a blazing hot, sunny day in Bermuda in 1916, but not in London in 2011.

I'm not sure, but I think that might be another symptom, er, sign.

# 3 - when you refer to "my" ship and use "we" to discuss what is going on, on the ship.

Yes! I'm forever confusing my flatmate by saying 'And then we went to Bermuda, and we lost some paintbrushes over the side, and I think we're heading to Halifax soon...'  ;D

Oh so that's what happened! You really managed to confuse me there, because I was reading page 8 of the thread and when I tried to go back to page 7, there were only two posts and page 8 had gone. I was about to report it as a bug, actually. ;D
