I wonder if an old fashioned garage where they come out and fill you up while you sit in could be " coaling with native labour"?

That would depend on whether the 'labourer' was born in (or in the general vicinity of) the garage, though, no? Otherwise he couldn't really be classified as 'native'.

I've lost track of the numbering, but my own signs would have to be:

A friend rings to say she's really sorry, but she's going to have to cancel your evening out, and your first thought is "Great, I can get on with my ship!"

Your "Amazon Recommends" emails no longer consist of crime fiction and thrillers, but are all military history books.

When your writing starts to look like the writing of the log keeper of your favorite ship.

After transcribing a lot of entries it happened to me  ;D ;D

Does such exist anymore, outside of New Jersey?

It MATTERS when a ship is refered to as 'he' and whether the log reads 'Anchor Away' or 'Anchor Aweigh'.

They are incredibly rare in the UK.

When you stay up way past your bedtime because you promised yourself you'd get to the end of March today...

The diet analogy is interesting but some logs are definitely more healthy, dare I say boring, while others are packed with tasty , but but sometimes bad for humour (humor) snacks.
