Beaufort Sea mega-fracture 2013

This NASA / National Snow and Ice Data Center video shows a sea ice mega-fracture in the Beaufort Sea that has formed over the last few months. Aside from the issue of increasingly thinner sea ice discussed in the post it really shows how fabulously dynamic the ice pack can be. Imagine a wooden ship caught up in this kind of turmoil!

That will scour the coastline. Oil companies planning on drilling should have a look at that!
