Odd Looking Barometer Readings
« on: April 30, 2011, 08:12:16 pm »
One of the vessel's logs lists barometric pressure as such:

1016.9
 291

Any idea what this means or how to enter it? I read the Encyclopedia section about barometric pressure, and was unable to find an answer to my question. I'm no expert, but since most of the readings I had entered for other vessels looked more like "29.68" I'm guessing that a reading of about 980 or so higher would be wrong. Here's a link to one of the pages in question:

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

Hi Babilkeko
Welcome to the forum & to OW.

I think that these entries are in Metric. Ie the height is in mm Mercury and the temperature is in degrees K.

I think the instructions will be to just type in as normal as there is no way that there could be confusion over these and imperial entries.

I think there was a thread to this effect some time ago but cant find it so perhaps best to wait for a moderator to confirm but I am sure that is what they will say.

Hope this helps

Hi Babilkeko

Yes, these are measurements in millibars and degrees Kelvin.
The science team are aware of them.
Please enter them as they appear in the log.
Welcome aboard.  :D
