Who left for Devonport?
« on: November 22, 2011, 03:17:03 pm »
Can anyone decipher the name and rank of the man who left for Devonport late afternoon on the Teutonic?  Sadly they've just had a major crew change, and the previous log keeper, who had lovely legible writing, appears to have left.

Could it be Mr. Penman (Ponman )?

Found several Penman in naval-history.net - only 1 Ponman and for WWII

I'd go with Penman - The National Archives list

Name   Penman, James
Date of Birth:   12 May 1888
Rank:   Lieutenant
Date   13 July 1917

No idea what that July record is about.

Thanks to both of you, I'll go with Penman.  I've no idea what the July 1917 record is about either - and as I've just been whisked from January 1917 to October 1917 I probably never will!
