Name of navigating officer?
« on: December 06, 2011, 06:24:36 pm »
Can anyone decipher the surname of this navigating officer?  He's a new one on me - I can make out 'Buchan M.' but the surname has defeated me.

Liddell?

That's a Scottish name isn't it?  So would go with Buchan!

Google says:

    www.oakman-of-ireland.com/america/antrim_john_oakman.html
'She met and fell in love with Lieut Buchan M Liddell, RNR. They married on 7 October 1919 in London...'

That's got to be him!  Not just a name, but a story too - thank you all for deciphering him.

And I've now had confirmation in the logs - he joined Minerva from Thistle on 21st July, and the writing is nice and clear.

I believe it is "Spann" (like the jazz guitarist).
