I've just looked at that url (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_gunboat_Chung_Shan)
and then at the bottom of the Wikipedia clicked on the press release http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/ppr_release_det.php?pd=20030123&ps=04

Apparently Sun Yat Sen and others escorted by a British gunboat to Hong Kong.... in 1922

Which one?

This one! He was on the Moorhen. https://s3.amazonaws.com/oldweather/ADM53-80947/023_0.jpg August 9 1922

Ah! Our actual HMS Moorhen. Thanks for clearing that up.
Between us, we've taxied around quite a few big noises.

I'm glad to see that their important guest didn't distract from their normal ship routine (condemning milk)  ;D

  ;D

They could have changed the name of the Pearl River with all the milk they've dumped into it. I wonder how long a milk tin remains intact under water.

I love the fact that the Captain landed officially.

I can imagine the chinese troops. Uh Oh, now we have done it. Here comes the captain with loads of armed sailors, what on earth are we going to do if he is coming officially?

Yeah, that must have made them tremble, especially knowing he was fortified by his 4 o'clock tea.

Note that there was a court of enquiry that morning into a drowning so he might have felt a bit more in an official mood.
