Fishy if you ask me...
« on: June 19, 2012, 11:33:33 pm »
Columbella log entry 20 June 1917
10.40am Hailed HMS Trawlers 'Stalwart' and 'Mrs Stratton' ordered them to search for a submarine.

That's great - I can just see the scene next morning at Billingsgate market..."I can do you 6 boxes of cod fillet, 3 of boned herring, and I got a whole submarine over there with the head still on it love, they get stuck in the nets now and then y'know....yours for 3 knicker the lot, darlin'."

 :-\

and with that I darken my ship upon another day.

LONGEST/SHORTEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR WARNING...just 24 hours away

Morning Ava. OW before work again.  ;D
Yes I feel I have to own up to having tried one.

Which is the longest evening?
Is it the one which ends on the 21st or the one which starts on the 21st??????

They are ok-ish in a 'beats McDonalds' kind of way.

But now I can't get the idea of a fish market where they also sell barnacled pieces of submarine and the like out of my head. I think one could start quite a bric-a-brac with all the stuff that's been lost overboard by assorted idiots over the years. And nautical themes are very 'in' if I am too believe the absolutely awesome antique shows on your side of the channel...

And I thought summer solstice was today this year?

The thing that bothers me about subway is the fake oregano smell that they waft over the surrounding area. Blech!!

Oh my - I love Subway - I just had a foot long with chicken & cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion & ranch dressing on a hearty Italian sub roll Saturday  ;D (YUM)  I think each one may have different things on the menu, based on location - and the one I go to always smells like freshly baked bread to me (DOUBLE YUM)

I find it much better than Micky D's  :P (YUCK)

MY favorite fast food is a little taco bar, called the Taco Bar  :D - FANTASTIC - fresh, made to order, authentic Mexican style tacos with wonderful salsa.

(I'm responding here before I have had breakfast, can you tell?  ;D)

I left my sandwiches at home ...sob!  ??? :'(   I now have a submarine shaped baguette with blue cheese and mixed salad (don't hold back on the olives) appearing mirage like before me. Serves me right... :-\

Love Karjin's idea about the bri-a-brac sale of lost-overboard items.  I wonder what would happen if we presented a list to the Antiques Road Show for valuation? There was a funny list put on the Forum a week or so back where all the lost items for about 2 years were shown in the log book.  Hmmm..wonder where they are appearing next? Of course one would only wish to go along if wearing one's OldWeather t-shirt.   ;) ;)

Ah! Wiki says its today (about 23.09 GMT) for the North- so this must be the time of the shortest day in the South I guess?

For temperate latitudes, the earliest sunrise actually occurred back on June 14, while the latest sunset is not due until June 27.
