Gorgeous sunrise!

I'm a bit confused why your winter solstice is on the 22nd - I'd have thought that your morning of the 21st was simultaneous with my evening of the 20th.

Just noticed the solstice date on the picture post was for 2011.   :-[
Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solstice for further details. Note the table is in UTC so make your own time arrangements.

There is a big thing here in the Sates for what they call the SummerSailstice! It's held on the weekend closest to the solstice and is a thing to get new people to see the joys of boating.

Check out www.summersailstice.com ;D ;D

my husband made up Unicorn Night - the summer solstice is when the unicorns that lived in the woods next to our house came out to look at the stars - for several years he would take our girls on unicorn hunts - one time they actually found a unicorn toy and the girls were just beside themselves. I hope we have granddaughters someday to continue the tradition.

Love the picture of the whale rubbing its barnacles off on the keel of the sailing boat.
