Hi there,

First duplicate pages I've found on Unalga (5 March 1942):
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_104_0.jpg
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_104_1.jpg

http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_105_0.jpg
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_105_1.jpg

From what I can see, it is exactly the same journal (left and right pages) scanned twice, and not a manually copied page... I'll however transcribe them both, just to be sure.

Edit: It's quite curious however that following these two there is an empty one with erased entries in the left weather page, and an empty right page with erased 6 March data:

http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_106_1.jpg

With two browser tabs opened i can copy & paste from a page to the other and then just check if text is still coherent with writing... nothing too lenghty or complicated. Since i had already entered the duplicated weather reports, lets go through with it :D

I've just found another couple of duplicated pages for Unalga, 20 March (again both left and right ones):
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_120_0.jpg
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_120_1.jpg
and:
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_121_0.jpg
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Unalga/b0139_cr2_to_jpg/b0139_121_1.jpg

FYI - Most log books have the day's data on two pages, and when they are scanned the two pages are scanned as one (http://www.djcosmik.com/oldweather/unalgaii1940s001-1.jpg) and then separated later.

That is why you are seeing pairs of pages here.
(That is also why inserts can complicate matters :P)

Just to say thanks for the table.

After sampling all the current ships, I realized I was having the most fun with Patterson and Yukon, so that's what I went back to.  I'm so glad to know what extra scans to skip. :)

A lot of text on this page - but covered by a piece of paper in part. The next page in the transcribing sequence is the log page that I expected after a weather page.

This is not a scanning fault, this is the normal process when an insert is permanently bound into the book.  The scanner must scan the butterflied book twice, with the insert covering first the right-hand page and then the left-hand page, or vice versa.  There's no other way around it.

For general information, this is how to handle this particular variation of the problem:
Page 1 of 4 is a normal weather page.  Transcribe it.
     http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USS%20Jeannette/vol001of004/vol001_009_0.jpg
Page 2 of 4 is the first side of the insert - transcribe that and ignore the page proper.  (blank here.)
     http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USS%20Jeannette/vol001of004/vol001_009_1.jpg
Page 3 of 4 is the second side of the insert - transcribe that and ignore the page proper.  (Barometer info here.)
     http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USS%20Jeannette/vol001of004/vol001_010_0.jpg
Page 4 of 4 is the normal comment page.  Transcribe it.
     http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USS%20Jeannette/vol001of004/vol001_010_1.jpg

It is common to have to look at the JPEG link for the other half of the insert to finish reading it, because the folds may put it where the computer page cut separates it into 2 pieces.  It is acceptable to put any transcribing you want to do entirely on one of the 2 halves.

Yukon:
Not sure where this goes anymore so I'll put it here:

http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USCS%20Yukon/Book%202/IMG_4192_1.jpg

Times have been cut off on the left. I only entered AM and PM except for noon in both cases where 2 M is visible.  Here the problem is the scanning so I am not sure if TWYS applies since we would not be second guessing the log keeper if we put in the complete time? The sequence goes 6 AM 12 M, 6 PM, 6 AM 12 M, 6 PM (two days per log page). I can go back and correct this if you agree?
