Please can anyone work out what kind of Deck thingy the Navy Yard sent to Jeannette (8 AM to Meridian)?
Thank you ,]Joan

Thanks Caro, I thought it looked a bit like Deckhouse. The log writer has some funny ways of writing vowels - reminds me of the silly policemen in 'Hallo Hallo' if you ever saw that comedy show.

If you didn't here is the listing of the shows. Old but a great laugh.

Good Call.  Looks like Deckhouse to me too.  And it makes sense given that they were rebuilding and strengthening large sections of the ship prior to departure.

Welcome to OW and the forum, PRSailor.  I hope you enjoy exploring - and contributing to - the arctic and history.

Are you by chance a real sailor? And/or Puerto Rican?  Us landlubbers will love having more naval know-how present. :)

Hello PRSailor! - a hearty welcome to the Forum. I noticed that you'd 'come aboard' the Jeannette.  I hope you are enjoying it. We've found a few curious nutty little weirdies in the log - but she's very easy to read (unless your Deckhouse gets stuck in the crevice of the page!). Sounds like you know a bit about boats then?

Also some Arctic ships were supplied material to add a deckhouse (or construct an observatory or storehouse on shore) as they anticipated being frozen in the ice for the winter. That way they'd have a bit more room.

There were 3 cords of wood in the inventory Kevin - perhaps usable for the deckhouse.
