I have some place-names for the Baltic to post which do not already appear on jil's and Joan's lists.  Is there an idiot's guide somewhere as to how to get the columns to line up?  I can't make tabs work in a forum post, and the Insert Table function - well, I just have no idea what all this "tr" and "td" stuff is supposed to mean.  ???

As a last resort I could presumably select Courier as a font and line things up using spaces, but there's obviously a way of doing tabulated lists, if only I knew what it was!

They CHEAT!!!!!  They use Excel tables.  Joan invented the way to insert them

Excel can be used to create tables in the forum

There's a sample table attached at the end of the very long first post that I downloaded, rather than creating my own master.  Change column titles, etc, to upload any data matrix.  ;)

Oh No - Janet, I'm far worse than that, I found yet another way to cheat!! My sins know no bounds.

If I'm updating a long list I go into it through modify, copy the line below my new entry, and simply re-enter it so that I have a duplicate line, then I just nip in and adjust the details.

If I were Thursdaynext I'd 'quote' a similar table and do exactly the same copy/change cheat to get the columns and rows etc.

Popping the mystery bubble:
table = 'start a table'
/table = 'stop the table here'

tr = 'start a new row in my table'
/tr = 'stop this row now'

td = 'enter a detail for a column'
/td = ''that's the end of the entry for that column'

Of course you have to add the square brackets to these to make them work.  You don't need to add any breaks between the column entries - the table will do that for you - and all perfectly lined up! ;)

And several nutcases dedicated people are willing to take a list in any format and convert it to the table format ;)

Found this chart of the Thames Estuary when trying to locate Black Deep Light Vessel. Found Black Deep Channel - still not sure where the Light Vessel was in the channel!

This looks to be a fantastic resource for Baltic landmarks and will hopefully solve a lot of our problems!

This document fascinated me, looking at just its cover.  If it was Publication #194, where were the other 193 publications?  I went exploring, and found that this section of the Navy library requires 2 links to navigate.  (There are only 40 of them, numbered from 120 to 200.  ;) )

Chart to discover which publication to ask for:  http://msi.nga.mil/MSISiteContent/StaticFiles/Images/SDLIMITS.jpg
Index to download publications:  http://msi.nga.mil/MSISiteContent/StaticFiles/SD_PDU_Summary.htm

I'm thinking we may be able to eventually I did find the online document index, or maybe cheat.  Take the above example from the Baltic, and replace "194" with the desired index number, twice.
http://msi.nga.mil/MSISiteContent/StaticFiles/NAV_PUBS/SD/Pub194/Pub194bk.pdf

Example: http://msi.nga.mil/MSISiteContent/StaticFiles/NAV_PUBS/SD/Pub120/Pub120bk.pdf for PACIFIC OCEAN AND SOUTHEAST ASIA.

This seems to have most them indexed for online viewing, but doesn't seem to include all 40:
http://msi.nga.mil/NGAPortal/MSI.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=msi_portal_page_62&pubCode=0010
They are called the CNO's Sailing Directions and do not seem to include our own coastline.  Those seem to be made/held by NOAA.

To find the charts listed in the above books (e.g., 61000 - Algoa Bay to Cape Town) try: Nautical Charts Online - National Geospatial Agency Nautical Charts
