Thanks!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And somewhere near Portage - 'Cape Una', and 'Kan' , and Jute Bay (Latitude 57.54 N, Longitude 155.85 W and plumb next to Portage Bay)
http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USCS%20Yukon/Book%2024/IMG_4635_1.jpg
Could these be Cape Unalishagvak and Cape Kanatak?
Portage Bay and Jute Bay added to ref & map. Also added Cape Unalishagvak and Cape Kanatak (delimiting east and west Jute Bay), and Cape Una/Cape Kan with a 'See' note - i'd say last two are effectively abbreviations. Thanks Joan
Kevin found a photograph album in the Smithsonian's archives that is right down our alley, Harriman Alaska Expedition collection, 1899-1900 : series 1, photographs - 2 albums with more than 200 photos of an Alaska and Siberia our ships saw, but we never will.  Lots of pics of big glaciers and sea ice.  The field logs for this expedition have not been put online.
Kevin was sending us the photo from here of Bogosloff [Bogoslof] Volcano, whose activity has appeared in our ship logs.
