Well I've located the treasure chest - I got into Janet's google earth file and added about 4 locations. But I can't bring the treasure trove up...i.e. I can't work out how to save the thing so that it appears on the map version.
Please - any chance you could do a blow by blow account or screen shots of how to save the changes?..sorry.  :-\

Joan, I studied my map page very carefully and there is a "SHARE" button available.  When I click it, it asks for "names, circles or emails".  I tried giving it your email, since that is what I have.  See if you got emailed permission.  And please email/PM me your Google account name - I'll also try sharing it with that.  We'll see if that works.

So...erm...can I add to Janet's Eastern Med map? I'm just doing the Eastern side on the Acacia.  And boy is it confusing...there certainly are plenty of places using the same name. Thank you to any respondants!
J ;D

I hope you get it sorted soon.
In 3 log book months we (The Concord) are on our way to the Med.
(I hope it is better than 'Norfolk, Va.')

If the origional map maker clicks Collaborate and enters your email, you can open it in Google maps.
Micheal and I share the Concord Map that way.

I did that, 2 days before her post.  I don't know what went wrong with it.  This is the email generated by Google Maps with replies - emails and private links deleted.  What else should we do?

Subject: I've shared a map with you: Black & Marmara Seas

I've shared a map with you called Black & Marmara Seas:
You can view and edit this map at
http://maps.google.com/maps/...

I'm trying the "Collaborate" thing now, left sidebar.  I marked the map "Collaborators may invite others".  All Collaborators may edit, but not the public.

Here's hoping it works.

I was encouraged to hear that Philip is using the geographical information you have accumulated. Is anyone working on west Africa place names?

West coasts don't seem to be as frequented.  We apparently have a bunch: http://blog.oldweather.org/2013/05/21/over-on-the-left/

You could try searching the forum for a specific place name and/or you could hope someone replies to this :(

The purpose of this board is not only to accumulate place names but also to accumulate them in one place so that everyone can find them.

If you find any, please add them to this topic ;D

Go first to this board, http://forum.oldweather.org/index.php?board=24.0 , and then use search.  You will get much more detail.  Better yet, go to list of the correct area before searching.

At the moment, there are still place names in the forum that have not yet been included here :'( :'( :'(
We're working on it!

If you are looking for West African sites, a forum wide search is probably more useful.
If you are looking for East African sites, try East Africa, Suez to Simonstown first.

I've got a list of place names (mostly lighthouses) in the Baltic mentioned in the logs of HMS Dauntless & HMS Dragon. Is this of any interest? I'm not sure how many of our ships made it into the Baltic. It is mostly just a list of name from the log and current name but I'm happy to find the lat/long if that would be helpful.

We'd be happy to have them!
I'm sure someone can use them (editors, transcribers, historians, scientists, ...).

Adding the lat and long would definitely help.

Please add them to: Other Place Names -- Discussion
