It has come to my attention there might be a problem when saving Journey Plotter maps on Windows 8.1 systems. :(

Before I start blaming Windows 8.1, is there someone out there using JP on Windows 8.1?
If so, could you pretty please confirm or deny this problem?

Thanks.

I'm on Windows 8.1, Maikel - but am I also the source of your 'attention'?

I've had direct contact with Howard, who wasn't the source of my concern, and he is working on Windows 8.1 isn't having any troubles saving maps.

So I can't blame the problem on Windows 8.1. :)

The problem has been found and solved. :)
Nothing to do with Windows 8.1.
It turned out to be security software prohibiting Journey Plotter to make a screen capture of the map for saving.

Now that makes total sense.  The culprit JP is saved in its final complete form.  :)

Recently Google Maps has updated it's maps and changed some of the used colours, most noticeably the colour of water.
If you are experiencing mixed coloured maps, like shown in this example, you'll need to clear the map cache in Journey Plotter.

You can clear the map cache using the Tools menu, Map Cache... and then click Clear Disk Cache in the Map Cache window.

Ahhh, that's what was causing that. I was only at the checking stage so was just ignoring it and hoping it went away by the time I would be producing the plots!

Boxing Day.
Well it doesn't come in a box, but I'm still happy to announce the release of Journey Plotter v1.5.

A summary of changes:
Added:
  • Show log-book entries that describe the ship's activities
    Some remarks on the activities:
    • no links to scanned pages will be shown
    • everything between two dates will be treated as belonging to the first encountered date, including editor notes, empty pages, etc.
    • due to limitations in the .NET framework, not all formatting of activities will be shown correctly.
      Most notably:
      • tables will always show border lines
      • table cells will not be automatically resized in width, or height, causing text to continue outside the cell confines
      • table cells will always be left aligned
      • images can't be shown; they will be replaced by a link to the image instead
  • Ctrl+N will open Select Logs window
  • Handle to adjust height of information box
Remark: if you are updating from an older version of Journey Plotter, you might have to drag the handle down to give the map the maximum available space again
  • Description box will show the ship name, date span and general location information
Changes:
  • Legend will automatically omit bridging line if none are present
  • Improved date detection to prevent false duplicate dates detection
  • Yahoo maps is no longer available
Fixed:
  • Improved detection of , instead of . as decimal separator in positions

An even more comprehensive list of changes can be found on the Journey Plotter website.

Edit: Added remarks regarding activities.

I've been encountering a similar problem with the map colours, except it's specific to one location (the Gulf of Oman) and stays after I attempt to clear the map cache. Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/NCnAsY0.png

Given that it's on all zoom levels, unaffected by cache clearing, and the sea around it appears to have a "shallow" border (as if it were coast), it looks like some sort of rendering error on Google's side. However, the problem has persisted for several weeks now, and doesn't appear on any other Google Maps-related service I've seen.

This isn't related to the previously reported colour change.
Like you, I think it's a rendering problem by Google, which I hope will only be temporarily.
You might also notice using Google Maps Satellite isn't working at all in Journey Plotter.
At the moment, I have no solution for either, other than perhaps use Bing Maps.

Google has changed services for their online products a year or so back, hence the difference between JP and Google Maps in your browser.
