Jil and I have come to an agreement. I will rejoin the Bear as soon as I'm done using my free 30-day Amazon Prime membership to watch bad fantasy movies for free.

How about I do mornings, you do afternoon/evenings on the Bear? And if I feel like doing transcribing later in the day I can do another ship then.
Janet.

Tactical transcribing!  Sounds like one way forward for the meantime, at least for those of us who frequent the forum.

Very good, Helen  ;D

Kathy, I don't think Philip said we were slow. I suppose he was just hoping to attract more members so that the total output would be higher given the huge volume of logs we have before us. Better to ask one of the Mods about that.

Hanibal, it is good of you to offer but the idea is to have more people who do both weather and remarks on the Bear since there already two of us specializing in the WRs. As a WR specialist yourself, you are doing an excellent job on the Unalga, where Matteo is taking care of the Remarks.

I am getting a bit embarrassed about all this fuss I'm making here. I didn't really mean to take over Randi's and Janet's job.  All I wanted to do is point out a way to increase our collective output :-[

I don't understand your point about errors, though? In what I proposed there would still be three transcriptions for each weather report. Those doing the third stream will do both history and weather.
Sorry, I misunderstood. I took the reference to historian in your post just before mine a little too literally ;) :-[

I have looked at a few Bear log pages, and I think they are suitable for newbies. If you all agree, I will set it to be one of the ships assigned to newbies.

I certainly agree, Randi  8)  I think the Bear is one of the easiest ships. When it gets into port in San Francisco the logs are irregular though.

I try to check through all the ships periodically to see if some have become easier or harder.

I had debated making Bear a newbie ship, but since she had a full crew I only changed her from three stars (set when she had irregular log pages) to two stars ::)

I understand.

I think there are only three of us active now. Is that what you mean by a full crew?

Yes. With three transcribers each page is being done once and you don't miss pages. But since jil is willing to share with Hanibal, I assume she doesn't mind the jumps.

 :-[  ;)
I don't do very much transcribing so don't mind skipping, especially if it means the percentage complete moves a little quicker. It was depressingly slooooooow when I first started transcribing Bear.

Thankyou for the suggestion of Autohotkey, but I find there is a war going on and the true creators of Autohotkey now have a different site. Makes me nervous of downloading anything. Apparently there are other macro generators in existence.

So it is not possible to alter or remap a key within Windows?

I believe there are some Windows shortcuts using control keys, David, but they I don't think they allow you to remap the keyboard.

I don't blame you for being careful about unknown web sites. I haven't had any problem with this site http://www.autohotkey.com/ but I only used it once to do the download.

I looked in both Windows7 help and Google Chrome help, and this is the best I could find.

As of now, there is no way to edit keyboard shortcuts in Chrome.
But you can use a third party software such as AutoHotkey to make your own "macro keyboard shortcuts" - set a key combination to do something like another key combination.
