Rosemary, I felt the same about the US logs to begin with and wasn't sure I'd ever like them.  But having had a year or so off just doing editing, I'm quite enjoying being back on Pioneer and doing some weather records again.  I tend to do alternate days editing and transcribing, and enjoy the variety.  For me it's the perfect project ....

I got a kick when the scientists shared some of the improvements which our data had helped them to make and I think that this was the main thing which kept me going on the weather.  I liked the structure of the RN logs and would happily go back to transcribing this sort of weather data.

Seconded in all cases. I love it when we get to hear about how the fruits of our labor are being used.

I've tried some of the astronomical sites and they don't 'grab' me, I think that the problem is that I don't know enough to build a picture of the data while the weather data is something which is part of everyday life (regularly read out on the shipping forecast!)

I don't really like the astronomical sites either, mainly because it's not as easy to understand what the point of it all is. Astronomy is nice, but it just doesn't seem as practical to me.

P.S. The Milky Way Project just got a MEGA boost thanks to a Facebook post - within one hour of the post, the whole project was done!
I am SO jealous. I wish OW would get a post like that.

There is such a phenomenon as 'too much of a good thing'.  If OW got that kind of boost what would we do for logs.  The ideal is that supply almost matches demand thus allowing the development of 'spin off' projects like ship histories.

I'm not sure I understand you here, Rosemary. At the rate we're going, it'll take us over 4.5 years to finish transcribing all the logs we have now - and that's assuming we never get any new ones in the meantime.
So I think we could use some more members.

We would lose many of the people Milky Way got - simply because of the length of a page.  On Milky Way, 10,000 people who do a couple each and then decide it's not for them contribute 20,000 classifications.  On OW, 10,000 people who do a couple of weather readings and then decide it's not for them contribute nothing.

BUT... I am very greedy for the few hundred out of that 10,000 who would get hooked enuf to stay and contribute a few pages.  For that alone, I'd like us to get mentioned on that site.

We got a big write-up in the Chicago Tribune Arts and Entertainment section today.  Big section for OW at the end.
