Submission time AND Pages Repeating
« on: January 03, 2014, 05:41:17 pm »
Is something up with the database?  Normally, when I submit a page it refreshes to the next page pretty quickly.

The last few days have been SLOOOOW.  Like 10-15 seconds.

This is not occurring with non OW pages, so I assume something is up with OW

I noticed a delay of about 10 seconds yesterday morning (my time) but today it was back to normal.

I've had sporadic problems over the last few days, but today doesn't seem too bad.

It seems to be affecting me as well. Could this have to do with the recent bug fixing?

Quote
The way we used to be selecting the next page for people to see was by taking the last transcription people had done, looking at the order number of that page and then finding the next highest page that wasn't done in the database. I think that got messed up with one of the updates to allow people to edit their transcriptions. When an edit was saved it became the last transcribed page which was messing up the selection algorithm. Its now working in a much more robust and solid way.

Hope that makes some sense.

Cheers

Stuart

I also noticed something else: Editing an already transcribed page is just as fast as always.
It only seems to affect new transcriptions.
I've been using the long refreshment time to read Cracked.com articles while I wait.

If there is anyway to speed this up it would be helpful.

I'm finding now that I hit "submit this page," get bored waiting for the new page to come up, wander off to do something else and eventually remember "oh yeah, I had that old weather tab open" (yes I have an attention span seriously impacted by the internet)

So a lot fewer pages get done in the spurts of time I have to work on them.

We've been promised that the problem will be looked at soon as possible, asterix.
Possibly tomorrow.
Thanks for waiting.

I just edited a page and it saved very quickly.

Perhaps the problem is in the bringing up of the next page rather than in the saving.

I have had the same problem on three pages in the last hour or so. All the pages have been the Miscellaneous Events pages, and only the ones with lots of data entries. The weather pages have been fine. The problem is that when I click on "I've finished with this page" Nothing happens. I do get the little pointing finger icon when I move the cursor over the "I've Finished with this page" icon, but it doesn't respond when clicked. No little spinning hour glass, no new page coming up - not even after several minutes of waiting. I have to do a refresh, and I get sent back to the main page, I log in again, get the page on which I was just working, and I re-enter all the data once more. I am using Windows 8.1 and M.S. Explorer.  Previously to getting a new computer and Windows 8.1 I had always used Firefox, version 26.0, but I found with Firefox that the data entry boxes often came up only partially showing, and I had to scroll the page up and down a bit so they would refresh and display properly. This was understandably annoying, so I switched to Explorer.
