HMS Sapper, escorting colliers from St Helen's to Caen Roads
5.30pm: Hove up anchor and proceeded to escort colliers: Channel Trader, Nanna, Argo, Ville De Canne, Butetown, Elg, Tormod, Telegraaf, Colbourne, Navigator, Lord Stewart, Enigheden, Northford, Ulven, Stokesley and Silsden towards Caen Roads assisted by Armed Trawlers Puffin, Lucknow and Merlin.
11.05pm: Loud explosion heard, but no sign of any distressed vessel. Steamer passing reported a ship had been sunk, but no trace could be found of any vessel. Convoy all safe.
