-29C is nothing! I never got to experience -50C, but I did see -49.6. Couldn't quite get that last half a degree out of Mother Nature. With climate change so pronounced in the north, such events are becoming more rare. When I worked at the college in Whitehorse, I used to bus in the mornings and walk home, 5 km (3 miles) in the afternoon. I walked home in some really cold weather, the -49 day, and a couple of days in the -40s with fairly strong winds. The secret is wearing good clothing. My good parka cost $700 and was so warm you couldn't wear it when the temperature was above -25. I left it in Whitehorse when I moved to Victoria. I did bring my medium parka for use in places like Edmonton. It's comfortable to -30.
Just for you, a photo for my house in Whitehorse when it was -46.
