How many tons?
« on: December 06, 2014, 12:11:18 am »
Please can anyone interpret how many tons of coal the Patterson just lumped on board?
Looks like '159 1340/2240'
See the line below 1:40 in the pm:

Cheers! :)

I had a similar one:

Quote
Mysteriously precise:
Received in all 19 2180/2240 tons of coal during day

and our intrepid Googlers found the answer

Look what I just found by pure chance!

Note that 742 + 2240 - 882 = 2100.

Ton ... A unit of weight equal to 2,240 pounds (1.016 metric tons or 1,016.05 kilograms). Also called long ton.

You are most welcome!

I can remember a post from two months ago but I can not remember to buy creamer when I go to the grocer.  Not sure if that is good or bad  :P

My problem is that I can not wait to share my wonderful OW discoveries with family and friends.  They are not nearly as interested in tons of tons as I am :D

I am soooo with you on this one!  I could talk about our ships and their events 'til the cows come home (or the cows get lost/dropped into the harbour ::)). My god-daughter is starting with OW - and I told her the story of some of our most illustrious...the Jeannette, The Bear, The Thetis, Corwin, my beloved Rodgers...oh it goes on. Also about sailing through fields of lemons, donating chocolate from boat to boat, eating (probably magic) mushrooms in northern Russia, accidentally gunning a Chinese Junk in Hong Kong harbour. We were in fits of laughter. And yet I STILL forgot to put prunes on the shopping list for the xmas pudding. Oh I love this project. I just feel that, sometime, we could produce a short book based on the best stories: "Tall tales from the Crow's Nest" - you know the sort of thing... :)

Shouldn't this be in the OW Addiction topic?
I mean, convincing your god-daughter to do OW too, that's addiction dedication. ;)
Well done Joan. :D

Yes, well done indeed! I've tried to convince several relatives, but I failed every time!  :(

I'm with hanibal - I've told lots of people about the project, but to the best of my knowledge, none of them have got on board.
