Great to see the photos. Did you manage to 'evaporate' any cognac from that barrel?   ;)

LOL - no, alas, no cognac for me  ;D

I'm glad ya'll are enjoying the pictures - she sails to Mt. Vernon next, so tomorrow I'm hoping to get over to Fort Washington (where some of our ships spent some time), which is across the Potomac from Mt. Vernon, and see if I can't get a shot or two of her underway - hopefully with sails set!

Alas, there will be no pictures of her with her sails set - she has been cruising up the Potomac using her engines - if I can talk my husband into it  ;D, I might be able to chase her this weekend on her way from Annapolis to Baltimore - or from Baltimore to Philadelphia -

Everything naval bows to wind and weather. I'm sorry that sight gets missed.  :)

I skipped work today and headed down to the Alexandria waterfront to get some photos of L'Hermione this morning. It was hazy and the sun was still a bit behind her from the Virginia side, so conditions weren't ideal for pictures. As you can see in some of the shots, there was quite a crowd. I didn't feel like waiting over an hour for a standby spot on a tour (it was already quite warm at 9:30 a.m., heading to 90F in the afternoon), so I just wandered around the dock area and took in the sights.

Anybody know what kind of bird that is in the last picture? Never seen one of those before.

great shots!  I have no idea about the bird  ???

It is hazy here because of the forest fires in Canada -  :(

WOW!

It looks relatively simple when you see mainly the sails.
Here you can really see how complicated the rigging is!

Clearly a heron or egret looking for lunch.  Black-crowned night heron pictures fit the bill

She does have quite a rope infestation!  ;)

That's pretty much what catches your attention up close to the ship. 'Mind the ropes', or words to that effect, are on the dockside warning signs.
