Confused by weather code
« on: June 08, 2015, 06:10:53 pm »
There's a new (hopefully not temporary!) writer on Thetis with beautiful and clear writing. However, he appears (to me) to have written 'bb' in the weather at 7am, any other ideas?

Also at noon here - http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USS%20Thetis/vol011of024/vol011_085_0.jpg

Very clear wonderful handwriting.  And I don't remember seeing 'dew' recorded very often before, he's looking at detail.  :)

They were both following fog, so perhaps he was really happy to see blue sky! I'll keep TWYS

I've just added Patterson aliases "Casaan Bay" and "Tongas Narrows", plus new place "Vallenar Point" (short distance from South Vallenar Point) to the database... will update Alaska Reference, maps and cvs soon :)

PS: When you're more or less certain about a word and/or the area you're cruising, maybe the Google Map (not Google Earth Map) from the Reference thread could help, it's also searchable... for Alaska: http://goo.gl/K0FQ0W

I think they are '3'. Doesn't make them right, but it sure looks like that's what he wrote.

They do look a whole lot like the number '3'. Did this person train on the Patterson? (I jest)

Nope. Concord has it's own handwriting training school.  People are encouraged to hold the pencil either in their teeth or their toes and to press as lightly as possible so as to save on pencil lead and/or ink ;D
