Hopefully the developers will soon realize that, unlike pictures, chronicles need to be presented in chronological order :'( :'( :'(

New Ecology Project - For Review

Hi there,

Please help us test a potential new project - Sedgwick Reserve Animal Pursuit

This study investigates the impact of drought and climate change on key terrestrial species at the 5896-acre Sedgwick Reserve in southern California.

The project is a collaborative effort between University of California Santa Barbara's Computer Science Department and the UC Natural Reserve System. Their goals are to make advancements in trail camera deployment and image processing to help climate scientists better understand how drought affects wildlife.

This project has been built by the researchers themselves, using the Zooniverse Project Builder, so we need your help making sure it's up to the standards of an official Zooniverse project. Try it out now at www.zooniverse.org/projects/ckrintz/sedgwick-reserve-animal-pursuit and give us your feedback via this form https://goo.gl/forms/haVg6mNUwkpuRw2L2 (which you can also reach by clicking the link on the project itself).

Snapshot Wisconsin Season 5

Greetings,

We're happy to announce a new season of Snapshot Wisconsin! Season 5 features wildlife photos from Fall 2016 and Winter 2016/2017. We've also made a few changes to the classification tool:

-       A "No animals present" checkbox to make classifying faster when no animals are found in a photo sequence.
-       A zoom tool to make tricky classifications easier.
-       New elk categories that mimic the deer categories (antlered, antlerless, and head not visible).

Log on now at www.snapshotwisconsin.org to test out these new functions and help us classify new photos of wildlife!

Thanks for all you do,

Christina and the Snapshot Wisconsin Team

26 New Candidates Discovered!

Hi there,

Great work last week, you helped discover 26 new supernova candidates. There was a lot of data to get through last week and we really appreciate it.

This week there are about 4000 new images that we need you help to classify.

Get hunting right now for supernovae at www.zooniverse.org/projects/dwright04/supernova-hunters

Happy hunting!

Too true. That talk about 'Faux Historians' still haunts me. Can't help thinking that there cold be a lot of very useful ideas ready to come out of those books if only they were in chronological order  :-\

Decoding the Civil War Challenge - Update

Hi there,

We wanted to give everyone working on Decoding the Civil War a quick update on our seventh day?halfway through?of the 10 ledger 2 week challenge. Because of your enthusiasm and hard work, on Sunday you finished the first 10 ledgers. We still need to process and review these ledgers before they are available to the public, but this is exactly what we hoped for! You have completed an incredible 6,342 classifications, an average of 1,000 transcriptions a day, in the last six days. We are far exceeding our goal of 425 classifications per day!

Now, because of this incredible feat of 10 ledgers in 6 days, which has been mind blowing in a very good way, we would love to tap into your enthusiasm, and beg upon your good graces, and tackle another set of ten ledgers. On Friday we prepared, just in case, a new set of ten. These ten have been called onto the stage and have been added to the challenge. This next set is quite exciting, it includes a letter press volume. We are now focusing the challenge on 20 ledgers in 2 weeks. We can do this!

We would also like to thank all our veteran volunteers who have stepped up and helped out on the Talk Boards. Thank you!

Now please rejoin the challenge at www.decodingthecivilwar.org.

New Project - For Review

Hi there,

Please help us test a potential new project - Comics++

The researchers behind the project want to identify comics elements and create an annotated corpus. The project's usage is at least three fold: enhance the creation of digital comics, boost comics research in Digital Humanities, and support the work of collectors, librarians and archivists.

Dive into comics! Read, explore, discover, share... Help expand our understanding of the sequential art!

This project has been built by the researchers themselves, so we need your help making sure it's up to the standards of an official Zooniverse project. Try it out now at http://dissimilitudes.lip6.fr:8182/#/ and give us your feedback via this form https://goo.gl/forms/QnrVl276yNatBWQ92.

Wartime Challenge - Measuring the ANZACs

Hi Everyone

We're now over a week into our challenge on Decoding the Civil War and now it's time to bring another wartime project into the challenge:

The Measuring the ANZACs needs your help. The 25th of April 2017 is the 102nd anniversary of the World War I landings by Australian and New Zealand troops (ANZACs) on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey, alongside British and French troops. Find out more about the Gallipoli campaign here: http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/first-world-war/page-3.

The Measuring the ANZACs project is transcribing key documents from the personnel files of these troops to understand changes in health and life expectancy. We need your help to transcribe key fields from enlistment documents and service history sheets that tell the everyday and incredible stories of mens' lives and wartime service.

100,000 New Zealand men served in World War I, in Gallipoli and on the Western Front. Can you help us complete the transcription of 100,000 fields in the next month to remember these men?

Later in the year we will be remembering the Battle of Passchendaele. Your help with transcribing now will allow us to uncover previously untold stories of men who served there.

Please head over to Measuring the ANZACs right now to help us complete our challenge: www.measuringtheanzacs.org.

Thanks for all your amazing work!

New Environmental Project - The Plastic Tide

Hi there,

We've just launched a brand new project - The Plastic Tide

The Plastic Tide harnesses the power of drone technology in an innovative and revolutionary way; surveying beaches in a series of beach cleans to capture images, and through the help of citizen science, train computers to remotely detect plastic build-up, with numerous and multi-disciplinary applications. Dr. Erik Van Sebille, world expert on marine litter and Science Adviser to the Plastic Tide, says;

"The Plastic Tide will significantly enhance our understanding of the amount of plastic on coastlines, by trialing revolutionary drone-based automatic detection of the litter. This will aid the creation of a global of inventory of marine plastic pollution, and help identify hotspots, impacts and fate of our plastic."

Get involved right now at www.zooniverse.org/projects/theplastictide/the-plastic-tide.

Cheers,

Grant & the Zooniverse Team
