Just thought it might be worth mentioning....

The Beluga happens to be in Port Clarence with the cutter 'Bear'. Although I don't think they mention much more than it arriving (6th July 1897) and leaving again on the 9th.

Go to current (Classic) oldWeather.org and go to vessels.  Click Bear, which takes you to  http://www.oldweather.org/ships/500dc362cd0db40002000455

Click "View All Logs".  The luxury of a completed ship is everyone of us can read all the logs.  ;)

Beluga was boarded and inspected by Bear on the 7th.

I got lucky ;)

I went to * * * Index - Completed Ships * * *, clicked on the Bear Discussion topic, and searched for "1897 July".
That found me this link: http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ow3/final/USRC%20Bear/vol078/vol078_092_1.jpg for the 26'th.
From there I just edited the link to find the 6 July to 9 July pages.

It seems the Bears has more details about what's going on on the Beluga than the Beluga itself :)

Getting stuck on a sandbar for 10 hours, and needing another steamer to get you off :P
