It seems to be working now ;)

Maybe it was, but not now. I click on I'm finished with this page, and nothing happens. Too bad it's before noon, I can't even drown my sorrows...  :'(

Don't fret!  IT has to be past noon SOMEWHERE on this planet!!!  8)

Good point! And on the Concord, one Lt. J. E. Walker was drunk and unfit for duty at 10 A.M. With an example like that, I shouldn't be so picky.

I don't know, Michael - your commanding officer might be a bit stricter than Concord's ;)

OK. I've emptied the garbage, cleaned the cat litter, swept and washed the floors, made the bed, done the dishes... Help! I need OW to get me away from all this... I'm almost desperate enough to start writing Christmas cards  :(

I need it too - I've gotten to the point where I'm looking at screaming goat videos out of boredom!

The database server behind classic oldWeather crashed yesterday (we're not sure why, but probably it was the whales). It's been rebooted and is reparing itself (whatever that means).

Nobody seems to know exactly how long this will take, but we're on the case and normal service will be resumed a.s.a.p.

Oh dear! Not to worry. I remember a time when the hole project almost crashed. Melted almost the whole project (at the time Galaxy zoo)  the techs fix it real quick and galaxy  zoo went on.  so take a deep breath and ........hope for the best

Old Weather: Classic is up. Woot!

Hooray!  Well done devs.  Philip's message that it was probably the whales who crashed it produced an interesting mental picture ...

Stoopid whales! Just because we used to hunt you and slaughtered hundreds of thousands of your kind is no excuse to wreck our databases!  ;D

OW Classic is indeed back! Hooray hooray hooray!

It looks like the Whales are back too.  :)

Many thanks to the developers for getting us back online.  :)

Thank you so much for your patience on the whaling site.

It's back up now, but there are still a few issues that we're tracking down that are causing slow loading of pages. This is likely linked to a custom bookmarking tool we put into the site (which allows you to go directly to the most recent page in a loogbook that you worked on). We may need to remove that functionality for a time while we figure out how to do that in a better way when there is high traffic.

There is also an issue with the tutorial popping up in a way that doesn't allow you to exit it out of it. We're also working on fixing that. In the meanwhile, if you do have the tutorial open up, click next to see the content. To exit out of it, click on the Whaling logo in the top left, go back to marking and transcribing, and you shouldn't see the tutorial again. However, it may be that in Safari you'll continue to have the tutorial pop up. If that is the case for you, please try in firefox, chrome, or another browser.

My most sincere apologies for these site issues. Your time, input, and effort is so important to us. We do everything we can to avoid moments like this. But as jbrune [in Talk] correctly pointed out, too many volunteers is a great problem to have. We love what you do!
