From Randi:

What do I do if the Master is using the log page as an arithmetic scratch pad?
Ignore the unlabeled arithmetic equations, but box and transcribe any and all dates, locations, weather descriptions, sea ice mentions, and anything else that interests you.

I want to get back to a certain page - how do I do that?

First - remember to 'note your boat'. There's a lot to choose from and you might work on a variety!
You will also need to note the page that you last worked on according to the database list.

TOGGLE the page navigation and check which page is highlighted - note it's number - that's how you will get back to that page next time around. Click the toggle navigation page icon:

As you can see the database page number does NOT relate to the page number in the log. Not all logs even have a page number!

Finally, send yourself a personal message to store this information.

Forgot to mark a detail in your page? How do you get back a step?

The only current way is to
Check and note the database page number for this page by opening the page navigation toggle:

  • now flick quickly through the remaining questions about your page UNTIL you reach the last page where you should select 'Yes' in order to keep the page live for you to return to at another time.
  • Once you've moved onto the next new page simply go back over to the navigation thumbnails and click back on the previous page.
  • Sadly you have to go through all the questions again (tell your mouse left button that you love it really  ;) )

This has been noted as a 'needs fixing' problem.
Also having to click 'yes' to keep the page live is noted.

Nautical Days - different start times

Looking at the timing of events in some of the logs (PM comments before AM comments), they appear to be using Nautical Days.

The nautical day started at noon on the previous (conventional) day and ran to noon on the next day - so Nautical 21st Oct ran from Noon on the (civil) 20th to Noon on the civil 21st. Nautical days are standard in older ships logbooks. It was usual to switch back to the civil day when in port.
